The Green Bay Packers wrapped up their preseason with a loss at the Kansas City Chiefs, but there were several exciting developments from the game.

Green Bay fell 10-17 and had their moments where they struggled. Special teams was horrid in just about every facet. They averaged zero yards on one punt return (five punts total) and 14 yards on four kickoff returns. Meanwhile, the Chiefs ran wild, averaging 19.7 yards on six punt returns and 31 yards on two kickoff returns. Rich Bisaccia has to be upset.

The offense also stalled out several times and was unimpressive for most of the night. That’s discouraging considering Jordan Love was leading them with the number one offensive line in front of him and training camp star Romeo Doubs at wide receiver. However, Green Bay lacked the playmakers they’ll have when the regular season begins.

To take a glass half full approach, here are some exciting developments from the Packers’ preseason finale at the Chiefs.

Here are some exciting roster noes about who could be on the bubble following the Green Bay Packers’ preseason loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

  • The Packers have six locks for wide receiver–Allen Lazard, Sammy Watkins, Randall Cobb, Amari Rodgers, Doubs and Christian Watson–and the question was whether they’d keep seven and include Juwann Winfree. Samori Toure made that question a lot more complicated after Thursday night. He caught six receptions for 83 yards and nearly had a touchdown. Toure will be a good practice squad candidate…if he makes it that far.
  • The battle for Green Bay’s third running back spot raged on with Tyler Goodson getting the nod over Patrick Taylor. Goodson had a sweet 24-yard touchdown run in the second quarter that saw him spin his way out of a would-be-tackler and bounce into the endzone. He even lined up as part of the punt team, indicating he could be strongly considered for the final running back spot ahead of Taylor.
  • Amari Rodgers was used in myriad ways as Matt LaFleur continues trying to find the best way to use him. He motioned into the backfield several times and ended the night with three carries for 17 yards (with a long of 11) and four receptions for 39 yards. He continued showing more of that wiggle that’s been displayed in the preseason.
  • Rasheed Walker got his first play in the preseason and held his own. He’s unlikely to make the initial roster, but showed some nice potential as a development candidate for the practice squad.

  • All of the starting defense sat out except first-round pick Quay Walker. Walker has been quiet since training camp, but showed some of his size and speed in this contest. He quickly tracked down the ball carrier a couple of times and closed windows that initially looked open. The Packers need more of that from him.
