Packers Cornerbacks: Rico Gafford and Kiondre Thomas
The Packers’ sixth cornerback role is the last one in this position group that remains undecided. Throughout camp, Gafford has been the front-runner, consistently lining up with the second team defense and playing a variety of roles on special teams with his 4.22 speed.
He still may be the front-runner, but Kiondre Thomas is making a charge. Defensively, Thomas has found more success, both against the pass and in the run game. He has also been working on several special teams phases as well.
For what it’s worth, during Monday’s practice, it was Gafford who was still working with the second team at cornerback, but he did not participate on Tuesday because of an injury.
Packers Safety: Micah Abernathy
It was a very impressive performance for Micah Abernathy against New Orleans after signing with Green Bay recently, following a stint in the USFL. USFL. Due to injuries at the safety position, which ultimately led to the Packers waiving Vernon Scott, there is now a path for Abernathy to make the team.
In this last game, Abernathy recorded three tackles, one of which was for a loss, he gave up only one reception on three targets for minus-five yards, and he came away with an interception.
Packers Long-snapper: Jack Coco
I wouldn’t quite call Jack Coco a roster lock yet, although he has looked the part during this preseason. He will need to finish the summer strong in order to prevent Brian Gutekunst from looking for long-snappers elsewhere, something he has already done, bringing in a few players for workouts.
