Will we see more consistency from the Packers’ young wide receivers?

Part of Jordan Love’s poor stat line from a week ago — the three interceptions, specifically — was that his receivers had two drops, and while ultimately Love should have thrown the ball away instead of trying to fit it into Amari Rodgers, the only reason he threw there was because the other two receivers ran the wrong routes.

This up-and-down play would carry over into practice and resulted in Aaron Rodgers challenging the young receivers publicly before meeting with them in person.

"“The young guys, especially young receivers, we’ve got to be way more consistent,” Rodgers said via ESPN. “A lot of drops, a lot of bad route decisions, running the wrong route. We’ve got to get better in that area.”"

This inconsistency is what happens when young players are expected to take on larger roles, and there will be more of it. This is why Rodgers will, in all likelihood, rely heavily on Sammy Watkins, Allen Lazard, and Randall Cobb at the beginning of the season. As Rodgers told us during minicamp, he prefers production over potential.

For this Packers offense to be at its best this season, they will eventually need steady contributions from Romeo Doubs, Amari Rodgers, and Christian Watson.

The urgency level for these young receivers needs to be high as the regular season is now only a few weeks away. The rookies seemed to respond well to Rodgers’ message on Wednesday, now let’s see if it can carry over to a live game.

"“He just wants us to see what he sees,” said Doubs via ESPN. “So then that way we can be able to react faster, play faster and just be able to dominate and continue to be who we are.”"
