Darkhorse candidates to make Packers’ roster: Innis Gaines, S

Several injuries to safeties have cut the slim depth of the position down to nil. First, Darnell Savage suffered a hamstring injury on family night and hasn’t returned as a full practice participant since. The good news is he’s been working with the rehab group on the side and isn’t projected to miss any regular season time.

Dallin Leavitt might not be as lucky. He suffered a significant shoulder injury in the preseason and will miss a good chunk of time (it’s not exactly how much). Vernon Scott already stepped into Savage’s starting role alongside Adrian Amos with Shawn Davis as the primary backup. That opens up an opportunity for Innis Gaines–who was on the outside looking in–to make the initial roster until Leavitt returns.
