4 Packers on the rise after preseason game at 49ers
The Green Bay Packers’ first preseason game on Friday night went about as expected. It was apparent it was the first action for players, as there were plenty of positives and negatives to take away.
Jordan Love emulated that more than anyone else. He finished the game going 13-for-24 for 176 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions. However, two of the three interceptions weren’t his fault, as his intended receivers didn’t hold up their end of the bargain on the passes. The third one was ugly and a perfect example of what Love needs to improve on.
There were certainly some encouraging moments from the Packers’ 2020 first-round pick, but you won’t see his name on this list. Let’s check in on four players who are on the rise.
These four players on the Green Bay Packers had positive performances against the San Francisco 49ers and are on the rise.
Packers on the rise: Amari Rodgers
Amari Rodges didn’t make his first (and only) catch until the fourth quarter which is definitely a concern. However, he made the most of that opportunity by breaking a tackle and turning it into a 22-yard touchdown. He also had a 50-yard kickoff return and totaled 91 yards on his three touches on the night. That was an encouraging showing after a rookie year that largely saw him disappear.
Packers on the rise: TJ Slaton
The Packers’ defensive line will give opposing offenses challenges all year long. They are an improved group from top to bottom, and TJ Slaton wants to ensure he isn’t forgotten. He was pushing guys around all night and blowing plays up. He looks like he’s taken a nice leap in his second year.
Packers on the rise: Danny Davis
Danny Davis might not make the roster at a wide receiver position that might already have its top six guys, but he’s making a name for himself. He finished the game with two receptions for 45 yards and one touchdown. His touchdown was impressive and went for 33 yards. At the very least, he’s making the coaching staff and front office’s job difficult regarding who stays and who goes at wide receiver.
Packers on the rise: Jon Runyan
Green Bay’s offensive line has gotten beat up all training camp, but had a positive performance to walk away with. Jon Runyan looks set as the starting left guard and will be somewhere in the starting lineup when Elgton Jenkins returns. He was good again on Friday night and looks like a lock for the Packers.
