Green Bay Packers IDL Jack Heflin

It was an all-around impressive performance by just about everyone on the Green Bay Packers interior defensive line group, but Jack Heflin consistently flashed as he generated consistent push and could oftentimes be found in the backfield.

As of now, we know who will make up the Packers five man interior defensive line rotation but what we don’t know is if they will roster five or six players at the position. They’ve done both during Matt LaFleur’s tenure.

Heflin, along with Jonathan Ford and Chris Slayton, is fighting for that potential sixth spot. Heflin was the sixth interior defender a season ago after an impressive preseason performance but he saw minimal playing time on both defense and special teams. At least defensively, that will likely be the case again, given the depth of this unit.

So now we ask, can that roster spot be better utilized elsewhere? That remains to be seen, but we will continue to gain more clarity as the summer progresses. But what we do know is that if Heflin continues to play like this, he’s going to make keeping him off the roster a difficult decision for Matt LaFleur and his coaching staff.
