The Green Bay Packers are inching closer to their first preseason game this Friday when they take on the San Francisco 49ers and have released their first depth chart.

It’s important to note that although the Packers themselves released this depth chart, it is still considered unofficial. And, as you know, there is still plenty of preseason for things to change as players prove themselves on the field.

Now that we have some idea of how the players line up in the team’s eyes, here are three burning questions.

Here are three burning questions after the Green Bay Packers released their first unofficial depth chart of the 2022 preseason.

Packers’ burning question: Why is Innis Gaines ahead of Shawn Davis at safety?

With Adrian Amos and Darnell Savage listed as the starting safeties, Vernon Scott was listed as Savage’s primary backup and Innis Gaines was listed as Amos’s. Scott has stepped into the starting lineup with Savage hurt, and it’s clear he’s the team’s no. 3 safety at this point. Being ahead of Shawn Davis is a big surprise for Gaines, who has been hurt.

Davis has been healthy all training camp and has a couple of plays where he’s flashed his potential. He does have a lot of work to do and hasn’t looked ready for regular snaps. That might be why the coaching staff put Gaines ahead of him at this point, but it’s still worth asking.
