6 Takeaways from Packers 2nd week of training camp practices

The Packers’ third running back role is still wide open
Until Kylin Hill returns from the PUP list, which at a minimum, wouldn’t be until Week 5 if he begins the season there, the Green Bay Packers are in search of a third running back. But at this point, no one is really standing out.
As I wrote in my recent roster prediction, I would still give Patrick Taylor the edge, given his experience, well-rounded skill-set, and potential special teams contributions. However, he has been sidelined with an injury for the last few days.
This has created more opportunities for undrafted rookies BJ Baylor and Tyler Goodson.
Baylor was one of the more difficult running backs to bring down during his 2021 season at Oregon State and has had moments holding up well in blitz pickup. For what it’s worth, he wasn’t active in the passing game in college, however. Goodson has shown some fantastic burst with the ball in his hands and was effective both as a ball carrier and a pass-catcher while at Iowa.
In part, I believe no one has separated themselves because the defensive front has been playing so well. This group looks fast, is flying to the ball, and quickly closing any gaps that may appear.
Once we get to the preseason, we should have a better idea of where each of these players stands. I’m not so sure about Taylor, Goodson, or Baylor, but when Hill returns, I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets more opportunities as the third running back to help keep Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon a bit more fresh as the season goes on.
