Green Bay Packers WR Romeo Doubs
Through the first eight training camp practices, Romeo Doubs’ stock has been soaring. It doesn’t matter where he’s lined up, whether he’s with the first, second, or third offenses, or what part of the field he’s being targeted in, Doubs keeps making plays.
As Brian Gutekunst told reporters following the draft, Doubs was one of the more “polished” players coming out of college. He finished his career at Nevada with 339 targets and over 3,300 yards with 26 touchdowns.
In 2020, Doubs ranked third among all receivers in downfield passing yards, but that same ability to win in multiple ways that we are seeing now is what he put on tape at Nevada.
In addition to winning downfield, Doubs’ targets were fairly evenly distributed among all three levels, with 54 coming within 10 yards of the line of scrimmage, 31 between 10 and 19 yards, and 25 targets that were 20-plus yards downfield.
Doubs was targeted heavily over the middle of the field, but about one-third of his total yards in 2021 came outside the hash marks, while he took a career-high 21% of his snaps from the slot–not to mention that he was also very effective with the ball in his hands.
On top of his impressive offensive performance, Doubs has also stood out on the punt return unit, where he had 37 career attempts in college, averaging an impressive 12.4 yards per return with one touchdown.
The greater the versatility and the ability to win in several areas on the field is going to lead to more opportunities for Doubs. For this Packers offense to be at their best this season, they’ll need at least one of Doubs or Christian Watson to emerge as a reliable target for Aaron Rodgers.
