5 Early Takeaways from Packers Training Camp Practices

Packers Rookie WR Romeo Doubs is off to a fast start
With 339 career targets coming out of Nevada, as Brian Gutekunst said following the draft, Romeo Doubs was one of the more “polished” receivers in this year’s draft. He would finish his Nevada career with 3,324 yards and 26 touchdowns.
So far, we have seen that experience on display, with Doubs the star of training camp through the first week. He doesn’t look like a rookie out there, making plays and diagnosing what the defense is doing like a veteran while also preparing like one as well.
"“Romeo is the first one in the building,” said head coach Matt LaFleur on Friday via Packers Wire. “He is in his locker getting primed. I see him in the weight room getting his body and mind ready. He’s already kind of established a routine for himself, and I think that’s one of the things that rookies have a hard time finding, and once they do, they can take off.”"
Whether lined up in the slot or out wide, or whether he’s with the starters, the twos, or the threes, Doubs has been asked to do a little bit of everything so far, and he has delivered.
During the 2020 season at Nevada, he finished third among all receivers in downfield receiving yards, per PFF, but he was also someone who was effective in all areas of the field, which we are currently seeing in action. Doubs has even spent time as the first punt returner, where he had 37 career attempts in college, averaging over 12 yards per return.
Doubs will have to continue deepening his knowledge of the playbook, just like any rookie, and it will be important for him to maintain this momentum. With that said, he is off to an incredibly fast start.
"“Romeo Doubs has had a really nice start to camp,” said Rodgers via Packers Wire. “Getting a lot of attention based on some of the plays he’s made. Like the approach, very understated kid, very humble kid…It’s surprising how many teams passed on him. Whatever the reason was, we all feel really good about Romeo and the start he’s gotten off to.”"
