Are the Brewers considering trading Josh Hader?
By Todd Welter
The Milwaukee Brewers need to focus on winning more than just the NL Central.
While the Milwaukee Brewers are being cost conscious and looking to get something back for Hader before he leaves for nothing, their pitching staff gives the Crew a legitimate shot to break through and make the World Series now.
The road to the World Series for the National League has gone through the Brewers the last four seasons. It would be nice for once if the Brewers are the team not being run over to get to the Fall Classic.
Having Josh Hader gives the Brewers the best chance to make the World Series. That is what this season should be about–making and winning the World Series.
The Brewers thinking they could trade Hader and still win the NL Central is a short-sighted view. The Milwaukee Brewers have won the Central in two of the last four seasons. The goal should be doing more than just winning the division.
Moving Hader now or in the offseason would further fuel fans’ frustrations right now with owner Mark Attanasio.
Brewers fans are starting to become restless with owner Mark Attanasio and the front office. The economics of baseball will never be in the Milwaukee Brewers favor but it would be nice to see Attanasio push his chips to the center to get the Brewers past the NLCS.
The Brewers’ offense is still struggling to score runs. Heading into the season, the Milwaukee Brewers’ major acquisitions for the offense was Hunter Renfroe and Andrew McCutchen. Solid players but the front office maybe could have stretched the budget to get a bigger bat.
Now, the Brewers have been in an offensive rut which led to a 2-4 homestand against the rebuilding Chicago Cubs and hapless Pittsburgh Pirates.
The Brewers’ owner is already preparing the fan base for a possible inability to land an impact bat, mentioning recently that there “isn’t much available at the deadline.”
The Milwaukee Brewers could use an upgraded bat in centerfield and even second base. If they can get that, the Brewers have a legit shot at getting to the World Series and have enough pitching to match the New York Yankees or Houston Astros in a possible World Series matchup.
The focus should be on getting those bats and not seeing what the team could get for Josh Hader at the trade deadline. Acquiring offense will strengthen the Brewers as contenders while trading Hader in-season will only weaken them.
