Green Bay Packers Under the Radar Player: Randy Ramsey – Edge Rusher

Receiver is drawing much of the attention this offseason, but depth at the edge rusher position is a very big need in its own right.

As good as Preston Smith and Rashan Gary were last season, there was a serious lack of playmaking ability when those two were on the sidelines. And as we look at this 2022 Packers depth chart at edge rusher, those questions still remain.

Randy Ramsey was on the Packers’ 2020 roster, seeing the bulk of his playing time on special teams, where he was a standout contributor. Unfortunately, last summer, Ramsey would suffer an ankle injury that ended his season before it even began.

Special teams play will be important for Ramsey, but unlike the other positions mentioned in this article, the Packers are still looking for contributors at the edge rusher position. Earlier this offseason, OLB Coach Jason Rebrovich mentioned that he wants a four-man rotation–and right now, only two of those spots are accounted for.

With Ramsey missing all of last season, he may not be front of mind when it comes to the battle at edge rusher, but he is someone that Brian Gutekunst is very excited about getting back.

"“I kind of like that group as it is,” Gutekunst said via SI. “Obviously, we’ll have Randy Ramsey coming back. We were really excited about Randy, Rambo, before he got injured last year. So, we’ll kind of see. But I like that group."
