Jordan Love: What will the Green Bay Packers see from him during the preseason?

What Jordan Love’s future with the Green Bay Packers looks like exactly is a big unknown. Will he end up traded next offseason? Or will Rodgers retire sooner than later, allowing Love to take over?

We don’t know what the answers to those questions are, but we do know that this is a very important summer for Love. He once again was able to take the bulk of the starting snaps during offseason programs, and he will play — or he should play — a majority of the preseason snaps.

The hope is that the Packers see continued progression from Love. Last season he would complete 36 of his 62 passes for a 58% completion rate, averaging 6.6 yards per attempt with two touchdowns and three interceptions–oftentimes looking the part of a young quarterback.

Areas where Love can continue to grow as a passer begin with his footwork and going through his progressions. Footwork is one of the most important aspects of playing quarterback, we will want to see Love with good balance on his throws, along with his feet in motion and moving with his eyes as he progresses from one pass-catcher to the next. Strong footwork will also help improve his overall accuracy as well.

LaFleur has also mentioned previously that he wants Love to let it rip. This, of course, doesn’t mean being reckless with the ball but instead trusting what he sees and being confident and acting quickly when attacking the defense. Improved decision-making is also going to be crucial, along with processing what the defense is doing more quickly.

Like any inexperienced quarterback, the biggest thing that Love needs right now is more reps–which he should see plenty of this summer. And hopefully, with more reps, we see him take that step forward as he enters his third NFL season.
