Green Bay Packers 2021 Draft Class

Shemar Jean-Charles – CB

I really went back and forth with putting Jean-Charles on this list because I do feel strongly that he makes the team. He is only entering his second season, played over 200 special teams snaps a season ago, and provides the Packers with some added depth in the slot, which is something they very much need.

However, I just couldn’t get myself to call him an absolute lock at this point.

If the Packers keep six cornerbacks as they have in the past, I believe two of those spots are up for grabs with Jaire Alexander, Eric Stokes, Rasul Douglas, and Keisean Nixon being locks.

Joining Jean-Charles in that push for the 53-man roster will be Kabion Ento, Kiondre Thomas, Raleigh Texada, and Rico Gafford.

Cole Van Lanen – OL

As I laid out when discussing Jake Hanson, I believe there will be two spots along the offensive line that are open this summer.

Van Lanen spent most of his rookie season on the practice squad and provides the Packers with that positional versatility we know they covet along the offensive line as he’s able to play either guard spot as well as right tackle.

For what it’s worth, Van Lanen has been taking snaps with the first-team offense at right tackle on several occasions during OTAs and minicamp. My guess right now is that Van Lanen is one of the final 53 players.

Isaiah McDuffie – LB

Again, as we’ve already discussed, with Campbell, Walker, and Barnes at the linebacker position, there will be very few defensive snaps for any other players this season as long as everyone stays healthy–which means special teams play at the linebacker position is going to be vital.

Last season, McDuffie finished seventh on the team in special teams snaps but ranked 13th in tackles, which included a few misses, according to PFF. He also possesses very good straight-line speed, which is an important factor on special teams, running a 4.61-second 40-time at the NFL Combine.
