Post Minicamp Green Bay Packers 53-Man Roster Prediction

Wide Receiver (6): Christian Watson, Sammy Watkins, Romeo Doubs, Randall Cobb, Allen Lazard, and Amari Rodgers

The big question here this offseason is whether or not the Green Bay Packers choose to keep six or seven receivers. Even with the uncertainty at the position, I went with six receivers because the tight ends and running backs play an active role in the passing game, and we hardly see the Packers spread it out with five-wide under LaFleur.

Ultimately, a seventh receiver is going to spend most of the season on the sidelines, and not only at the receiver position, but in general, I expect the Packers to rely heavily on experience this season on the offensive side of the ball.

Now, if someone like Juwann Winfree or Samori Toure really stands out on special teams, I do believe there is a path to one of them making the roster as a seventh receiver. However, until I see that, I’m sticking with six–which is the most that Green Bay has kept under LaFleur.

Tight End (4): Marcedes Lewis, Josiah Deguara, Dominique Dafney, and Tyler Davis

PUP List: Robert Tonyan

Just like with Hill, until we hear otherwise about Tonyan, I’m going to assume he starts on the PUP list for the time being–which initially makes putting this position together very easy.

However, once Tonyan is available, there will be some difficult decisions made. Green Bay is either going to have to cut one of these tight ends if they want to stick with just four, or if they decide to keep all five, they’ll have to make a roster cut at a different position.

Offensive Line (9): David Bakhtiari, Jon Runyan, Josh Myers, Royce Newman, Yosh Nijman, Zach Tom, Sean Rhyan, Jake Hanson, Cole Van Lanen

PUP List: Elgton Jenkins

The first seven players listed are going to be on the 53-man roster–assuming Bakhtiari is healthy, of course. But after that, there are some roster spots available with Jenkins beginning on the PUP list.

For the time being, I am choosing Jake Hanson, who was on the 53-man roster last season and can play both center and guard positions, along with Cole Van Lanen. The big reason that I chose Van Lanen over Rasheed Walker is because of his experience–not to mention that Van Lanen has been taking snaps at right tackle with the first team in practice so far.
