Disappointing Milwaukee Brewers’ hitters: Christian Yelich

It’s beyond time we accept that this is the new Christian Yelich. After an insane two-year run that resulted in one MVP and another near-miss that likely would’ve been back-to-back had it not been for a kneecap injury that prematurely ended his season, Yelich has been in a putrid three-year slump.

At some point, a slump stops being a slump and starts becoming the norm. Through 240 plate appearances this season, Yelich is only hitting .230 with a .321 on-base percentage. That’s a far cry from his peak in 2019 when he finished the year hitting .329 with a .429 on-base percentage.

Yelich is at least hitting the ball a bit harder than last year, but he’s seemingly lost all of his power. He also continues to strike out at an alarming rate with one in four of his plate appearances resulting in a K of one type or another. Counsell has tried to jumpstart Yelich by moving him to the top of the order, but it’s probably time he assumes his rightful spot near the bottom.
