Packers’ potential no. 1 wide receivers: Allen Lazard

Allen Lazard has a leg up on the competition when it comes to familiarity with the playbook and the quarterback–two advantages that can’t be discounted.

Lazard took a step forward in his play last season when many analysts thought it would be Marquez Valdes-Scantling who was prepared to improve. He posted a career-high 40 receptions for 513 yards and eight touchdowns. Most importantly, Aaron Rodgers appeared to trust him on third downs and in the red zone.

He’s been absent from minicamp this week, as he has yet to sign his free-agent tender. That could be a sign of his willingness for a multi-year deal and we’ll see how that gets resolved this offseason. Afterward, Lazard will have a golden opportunity for the green and gold.
