5 Packers on thin ice entering 2022 mandatory minicamp

The Green Bay Packers just wrapped up their second week of Organized Team Activities, a “voluntary” workout, and are now moving into the mandated minicamp section beginning on June 7th.
Matt LaFleur wants to get his team as prepared as possible this offseason, especially considering the turnover at the wide receiver position. Even though offense will generate a majority of the headlines, Green Bay also needs to find answers at some other key positions.
With a lot to be determined, let’s check out five players who are on thin ice entering Tuesday’s mandatory minicamp.
These five key players on the Green Bay Packers are on very thin ice entering the beginning of the 2022 mandatory minicamp.
Packers on thin ice entering mandatory minicamp: Royce Newman
Royce Newman was a nice story last season. As a fourth-round draft pick, he started 16 games at guard for the Packers and provided them with a nice insurance policy for all of the injuries they suffered to interior offensive linemen. However, it could be a short reign if Newman doesn’t improve.
His biggest weakness last season was his complete inability to manage a stunt. He consistently missed diagnosed the play and allowed a pass-rusher to get right past him on even the most basic of stunts. With Josh Myers healthy, Elgton Jenkins recovering from his injury and Green Bay using another third and fourth round pick on offensive linemen, the competition is at an all-time high. Newman might begin the offseason as a starter, but he’ll have to earn that spot by the time the season begins.
