Early Look at Green Bay Packers 2023 Unrestricted Free Agents

Elgton Jenkins

Don’t you worry, Elgton Jenkins isn’t going to hit free agency. This may be the final year of his rookie deal, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see an extension agreed upon during the season, or at the very minimum, it will be before free agency begins in March.

As I wrote in a recent article, Jenkins is a unicorn with not only his ability to line up at all five positions but to play all five positions at a Pro Bowl level. We will see how this season unfolds, but it does look like he could find a home moving forward as the right tackle.

Jenkins, along with Rashan Gary, are the next two members of this Green Bay Packers team who are in-store for big paydays following Jarie Alexander’s extension.

Keisean Nixon

Keisean Nixon signed a one-year deal during free agency, and who knows, maybe he earns another contract.

While this is a signing that likely flew under the radar, Nixon spent his first three NFL seasons in Las Vegas under Rich Bisaccia and could prove to be a core special teams player. On top of that, the Packers need some additional help in the slot, and he will have his opportunity this summer to prove himself in that role.

Ty Summers

During his time with the Packers, Ty Summers has seen very little time on defense, and it’s going to remain that way in 2022 as well. He has, however, been a key member of the special teams unit, finishing in the top-4 in special teams snaps among the Packers in each of his first three seasons.

Summers is very much competing for a roster spot this summer. With a new special teams coordinator and a team coming off an abysmal season from a special teams perspective, experience is important, but I don’t see it carrying as much value this season as it may have in the past.

Competing at the linebacker position with Summers for a roster spot will be Ray Wilborn, Isaiah McDuffie, Ellis Brooks, and Caliph Brice.
