Packers on their last leg: Aaron Jones

It’s a cruel life in the NFL for running backs. They are becoming more and more devalued as time goes on with fewer players getting selected in the first round and fewer yet earning big contracts once their rookie deal expires.

Unfortunately, Aaron Jones isn’t any different. For many other players and in most other sports, he’d be entering his prime this year–he’ll turn 28 in December. However, at running back and in this league that means he’s getting closer to the end of his time as a top back.

Jones wasn’t as explosive last season–his yards per carry nearly dropped a full yard, his rushing yards after contact fell, and he broke the fewest tackles of his career since his rookie year. Combine that with the fact that AJ Dillon is waiting in the wings and that Jones’ cap hit is $20 million in 2023 and this could be the last hoorah for him.
