Green Bay Packers Wide Receiver Position

Despite all of the unknowns that surround the Green Bay Packers wide receiver room, it’s actually pretty crowded. I mean, if the Packers want to keep six receivers, which they’ve done in two of LaFleur’s three seasons, then those roster spots already seem accounted for.

It feels fairly safe to say that Sammy Watkins, Allen Lazard, Randall Cobb, Amari Rodgers, Christian Watson, and Romeo Doubs are going to be on the final roster.

So then the question becomes, and I wrote about this in greater detail recently, do the Green Bay Packers keep six or seven receivers?

Not that they can’t but the Packers have never kept more than six receivers during LaFleur’s tenure. Potentially competing for a seventh spot would be Samori Toure, Juwann Winfree, and Malik Taylor.

Perhaps with the uncertainty in this room this season, LaFleur would prefer seven receivers so he has an additional option as playing time is worked out. Or maybe without Davante Adams and the ball being spread around more, a deep rotation is required.

On the flip side, a seventh receiver means taking a roster spot away from another position. Or even with the unknowns, LaFleur may still not feel the need for a seventh receiver because of how active the running backs and tight ends are in the passing game.

At the end of the day, it’s going to come down to who is playing well. If there are seven receivers worth rostering, then LaFleur very well could go that route. But if a seventh receiver doesn’t emerge over the summer, then the question answers itself.
