Green Bay Packers Cornerback Position

Cornerback looks somewhat similar to the safety position. With the starters, the Packers are very well positioned, but after Eric Stokes, Jaire Alexander, and Rasul Douglas on the depth chart, we run into inexperience and question marks.

Shemar Jean-Charles is a 2021 fifth-round pick who saw 38 defensive snaps as a rookie. Keisean Nixon, who could become a core special teams player, has 274 total snaps in three seasons. Then there is Rico Gafford, who just converted from receiver to cornerback, along with Kiondre Thomas, and training camp favorite Kabion Ento, but neither have any NFL snaps.

If the Green Bay Packers keep six cornerbacks as they usually do, that leaves three roster spots up for grabs. And in addition to just trying to round out the roster, the Packers could also use some competition at the slot cornerback position as well.

As I wrote recently, it’s going to be a group effort to cover those snaps because it’s not as if Alexander is going to spend all of his time there. Other options include Stokes, Douglas, and Savage, although having Jean-Charles or Nixon emerge as a reliable option as well could do wonders for the amount of flexibility that it gives Joe Barry.
