Although the Green Bay Packers are hoping every player on their roster will take a step forward next season, that’s not realistic and there will be guys who struggle in their roles.

The key is for the front office to anticipate those players who might regress and have a backup plan in the form of another player at the same position or a way to share some of the burden in other areas. For example, Green Bay is expecting their passing game to regress this season and has invested heavily in their defense to pick up some of the slack.

Let’s take a look at four players who are regression candidates ahead of the 2022 season.

The Green Bay Packers should be careful about these four players taking a step backward in their play during the 2022 NFL season.

Packers’ regression candidates: Marcedes Lewis

Father Time is undefeated. However, Marcedes Lewis is holding him off as long as possible and, at 38-years-old, still has a chance to be a reliable tight end in the Packers’ offense. He hasn’t been much of a pass-catcher since arriving in Green Bay four years ago, but he’s as reliable a blocking tight end as there is in the NFL. Unfortunately, that could drop off a cliff at any moment.
