The Green Bay Packers will depend on their defense more than ever before when the 2022 NFL season kicks off. Not only did they re-sign their biggest defensive free agents, but they used their top two picks in the draft to address the position as well.

Despite one noteworthy departure, Green Bay is returning most of their players on this side of the ball, including some key leaders on the field and in the locker room. Let’s take a look at four returning players who will play huge off-the-field roles in their success this season.

The Green Bay Packers will depend heavily on these four defensive players who are returning for the 2022 NFL season as leaders.

Rashan Gary

The only guy on this list who wasn’t voted as a defensive captain, Rashan Gary is quickly gaining respect for his play on the field. He stepped up in Za’Darius Smith’s absence last season and is only going to continue ascending the ladder to greatness. His off-the-field work ethic is amazing and has played a key role in his success. That’s a trait he can model for his teammates and hold them to the same standard of improvement.

Kenny Clark

Kenny Clark quietly goes about his business along the defensive line, never getting too high or too low. He’ll finally have some help up front this season, but that won’t detract from his leadership role. His teammates obviously appreciate his leadership and don’t be surprised if he’s voted as a captain once again.

Adrian Amos

Adrian Amos was an excellent free agent addition in 2019 when the Packers signed him from the Chicago Bears. He’s a great mentor in the secondary and always provides a steady hand for Darnell Savage and the backup safeties. He’s respected off the field just as much as he is on it. That’s a great sign for a veteran presence in the Packers’ locker room.

Jaire Alexander

Jaire Alexander brings a different kind of leadership to the field–loud, in your face and passionate. He’s the heart and soul of Green Bay’s D and was sorely missed last season. Alexander immediately raises the energy on the field and holds his teammates to the same high level of play he holds himself to. It will be nice to have him back.
