Green Bay Packers UDFA: CB Raleigh Texada

Like safety, cornerback is another position on this Green Bay Packers team that is lacking experienced depth, which could open the door for Raleigh Texada from Baylor.

Behind Jaire Alexander, Eric Stokes, and Rasul Douglas on the depth chart are Shemar Jean-Charles, Kiondre Thomas, Keisean Nixon, Kabion Ento, along with Texada. Jean-Charles has 38 career snaps, Nixon 274, and the rest have none.

In addition to just building some reliable depth at the position, there is also the question of who is going to play in the slot when Alexander is on the boundary? In all likelihood, Alexander is going to move around with the opponent’s top receiver, and when it comes to slot experience, again, there is very little on the roster.

Texada is an experienced college player with 2,187 snaps during his five-year playing career at Baylor. In addition to what he brings in coverage, Texada is a very sound tackler, missing only nine tackles out of 143 career attempts, according to PFF ($$), and he was effective as a blitzer as well.

Over his career, he allowed a completion rate of 61% on 176 targets and 12.6 yards per catch. Texada would also come away with four interceptions and 13 pass breakups. Just about all of his snaps came lined up on the boundary along with another 239 on special teams.

Texada stands 5’10” and weighs 191 pounds. He posted a RAS of 8.21, which includes a 4.43-second 40-yard dash.

"“Positives: Feisty cornerback who gets the most from his ability, wrote Tony Pauline of Pro Football Network. “Effective facing the action, stays with assignments in zone coverage, and diagnoses plays. Tracks the ball in the air, possesses a closing burst of speed, and fires to the action out of his plant. Gives effort defending running plays and screen passes. Negatives: Small. Prefers to side shuffle downfield rather than backpedal. Blocked from the action by receivers. Analysis: Texada is a feisty cornerback who is most effective facing the action. He possesses enough skills to be used as a dime back in zone coverage, though Texada must earn his wage on special teams.”"
