Round 2, Pick 59 for the Green Bay Packers

Matt’s Pick: Roger McCreary, CB, Auburn

This pick provides yet another weapon for Joe Barry on the defensive side of the ball. McCreary deserves way more hype than he is currently receiving. He is one of the best press-man coverage corners in the draft class, and would fit right in with the likes of Jaire Alexander, Rasual Douglas, and Eric Stokes. On top of this, the Packers are in need of someone to step in a be their nickel corner this season. With Chandon Sullivan out the door, an opportunity for McCreary arises.

McCreary is a stud in man coverage as I mentioned before, but he is slightly undersized at 5 feet 11 inches, and 190 pounds, so his projection is likely inside rather than outside. Which plays into the Packers’ favor. Despite his frame, he was one of, if not the best cornerback in the country last season. It may not be the most popular choice at the time, but choosing Roger McCreary will be a great selection for the Packers.

Kenny’s Pick: Alec Pierce, WR, Cincinnati

Alec Pierce is the Packers’ prototype draft pick at wide receiver. At 6’3″ 211 pounds, there’s no way they don’t absolutely love his size. Additionally, he has a ridiculous 40.5 inch vertical, and 4.41 40-time. This all added up to a crazy good 9.82 RAS.

The downside for Pierce is his agility and his shuttle and 3-cone drill numbers both weren’t inspiring. This hurts him as a route runner, but early in his career, he can be a great deep threat with speed and the ability to go get jump balls. His size also lets him be a great blocker, which is huge in the Packers’ run game out of condensed formations and for blocking on the edge when they throw short RPOs. This all helps him be an early contributor while he develops his route running and has the chance to become a star down the road.
