Round 2, Pick 53 for the Green Bay Packers

Matt’s Pick: Christain Watson, WR, North Dakota State

I predict the Packers will continue their success of finding receiver talent on Day 2 of the NFL draft. It may be tempting to be aggressive in round 1, but Christian Watson has the physical tools to be the best receiver in the draft class. His value right now is too good to pass on.

If I told you there was a 6-foot 4-inch receiver, who ran a 4.36 40-yard dash and has a great ability to make contested catches, you would be interested right?

Well, that guy is not only available, but he is available at a bargain. I am a firm believer that if Watson went to an FBS school like other receivers in this draft, he would be a consensus top 20 pick. Yet, since he went to North Dakota State and lacked some of the exposure of his peers, he will be available in the second round. Watson does it all, he can stretch the field on deep balls, play in between the numbers as a possession receiver, and even be a factor in the return game if necessary. He is the steal of the draft, and Brian Gutekunst must take advantage.

Kenny’s Pick: Jalen Tolbert, WR, South Alabama

While Jalen Tolbert isn’t one of the top wide receiver names in this draft class, he certainly has great potential to make an early impact in Green Bay as a second-round pick. He improved greatly every season at South Alabama, with his reception numbers climbing from 27 to 64 to 82 and his receiving yards in those seasons being 521, 1085, and 1474.

This improvement and production is a huge part of his upside as a pro. He also had some nice testing numbers, finishing with an 8.55 RAS. Not being an instant alpha number one receiver is a downside, but he has good speed and has all the tools and ability to get open, as well as good ability to run after the catch.
