Prediction No. 5: The Green Bay Packers Trade-up once again

One of the big differences between Brian Gutekunst and Ted Thompson is that Gutey is very willing to trade up in the early stages of the draft. In fact, he’s done it every year that he’s been in charge. Since 2018, the Packers have traded up five times within the first three rounds under Gutekunst, and on three occasions, those trades have occurred in Round 1.

As I wrote a few weeks ago, equipped with 11 picks and a need for a wide receiver, the Green Bay Packers are in a position to be very aggressive early on in order to make sure that they get their guy while still having other early picks that can be utilized to address other positions of need.

My guess is that they move up from pick 22 to the mid-teens to take a receiver–although I wouldn’t be surprised if they do so for an edge rusher either. You can click here to take a look at what those trade packages might look like.

When you couple Gutekunst’s history in the draft, the major need at receiver, along with Green Bay being rich in draft capital, it all adds up to the Packers once again trading up in the first round.
