The popular thought is that the Green Bay Packers will use one of their two first-round picks in the upcoming 2022 NFL Draft to select a wide receiver. They should also look to add one in the middle rounds as well.

Even after signing Sammy Watkins, Green Bay’s depth chart is horrendous and they’ll be counting too much on Allen Lazard, Randall Cobb and Amari Rodgers. It’s safe to say the team is counting on Aaron Rodgers to play superman and raise the level of play at the position.

However, the Packers need to take another dart throw at adding a playmaker and should target any of these four players who should be available in Rounds three and later.

The Green Bay Packers need to add a couple of wide receivers in the 2022 NFL Draft and should target these four players in the middle rounds.

Velus Jones Jr., Tennessee, 5th-6th round

Talk about speed. Velus Jones Jr. ran a 4.31-second 40-yard dash and is exactly what Green Bay needs when it comes to that element. He hauled in 62 receptions for 807 yards and seven touchdowns last year and could be a nice depth piece for Green Bay. He’d be most attractive for his explosiveness as a returner on both kicks and punts. The Packers need to improve that area as well and Jones Jr. could be a target around the fifth or sixth round.

Danny Gray, SMU, 4th round

Danny Gray is another speed demon (4.33-second 40-yard-dash) who could become a downfield threat in the NFL. Although his specialty is at beating teams deep, he can also catch crossers across the middle of the field and turn on the jets for some YAC–an aspect Matt LaFleur has to love. He’s also a willing blocker in the run game. He does have to add some muscle to his frame and there are questions about his durability.

Alec Pierce, Cincinnati, 3rd round

Pierce should be available in the third round and is one of the more well-known names on this list. He has a good combination of size (6-foot-3) and speed (4.41-second 40-yard dash) that would be a welcome sight on the football field. He would add speed that is desperately needed and has reliable hands as well. He still needs to work on his route-running which is why he’s available late on Day 2.

Tyquan Thornton, Baylor, 5th round

Finishing with Tyquan Thornton, perhaps, the fastest guy on this list of fast guys (4.28 40-yard dash). Some have described him as a player with all gas, another trait that LaFleur should love considering his catchphrase of, “All gas, no ******* brake.” He has good size at 6-foot-2 as well. He will need to add some muscle, but he could be a direct replacement for Marquez Valdes-Scantling in this offense.
