Green Bay Packers trade with Pittsburgh for Pick 20

Packers receive: picks 20 and 210

Packers trade away: picks 28, 92, and 132

Green Bay Packers trade with New England for Pick 21

Packers receive: pick 21

Packers trade away: picks 28, 92, 171, and 228

Quick Thought: With the Green Bay Packers holding the 22nd pick, the only way they make either of these trades is if there is someone they really love and they are concerned about another team trading with Pittsburgh or New England — who, as we’ve seen, isn’t afraid to move back — to select that same player.

I’m sure you’ve also noticed that the last few trades have required extra picks — and in some instances, from both teams — to make the math work out. I have no idea, but I do wonder if that does make a team less likely to make a deal.

In the trade with New England, the Packers keep both first and second-round picks but part with a third and fourth-rounder — both of which can still be valuable — in order to move up eight spots. I suppose to some degree, I can answer my own question by saying if the team truly believes that they are trading up for their guy and an impact player, then it’s a move worth making.
