What it Could Cost Green Bay Packers to Trade Up from Pick 28
By Paul Bretl
Green Bay Packers trade with Philadelphia for Pick 15
Packers receive: pick 15
Packers trade away: picks 28 and 53
Green Bay Packers trade with New Orleans for Pick 16
Packers receive: pick 16
Packers trade away: picks 28, 59, and 228
Green Bay Packers trade with LA Chargers for Pick 17
Packers receive: picks 17 and 214
Packers trade away: picks 28 and 59
Green Bay Packers trade with Philadelphia for Pick 18
Packers receive: picks 18,124, and 237
Packers trade away: picks 28 and 53
Quick Thought: In each of these trades, the Green Bay Packers have to part with a second-round pick, at the minimum, but they of course, are still left with one remaining. The benefit of having four picks within the first two rounds is not only that the team has four premium selections, but it allows Gutey to operate aggressively as well.
Green Bay Packers trade with New Orleans for Pick 19
Packers receive: picks 19 and 120
Packers trade away: picks 28, 59, and 228
Quick Thought: With Philadelphia and New Orleans already completing a pre-draft trade that took the Eagles from three first-round picks to two in this year’s draft while affording New Orleans with an additional pick, I’m not sure how willing either side is going to be when it comes to moving back to pick 28. For that to happen, they would have to have several players who they all value somewhat similarly.
It feels like if the Green Bay Packers are going to move up to this range, it is going to have to be through a deal with the Chargers. However, in these instances, we have to ask ourselves, is LA — or whichever team — willing to move back 10+ spots? In 2018, after trading back initially, we did see Gutey make a move from pick 27 to 18 to select Jaire Alexander.
