Green Bay Packers Mock Draft Roundup & Takeaways

Zach Patraw – SI

Round 1: Jameson Williams, WR, Alabama and Travis Jones, IDL, UCONN

Round 2: Trey McBride, TE, Colorado State and Lewis Cine, S, Georgia

Takeaway: Easily, the best mock draft of the bunch–and it’s not very close either. Williams may miss some time early on, but on tape, is considered by many to be WR1 in this class. He brings some much-needed big-play ability to this offense. Then Green Bay lands Jones, who was known for his run-stuffing abilities at UCONN but is someone who I believe can be a three-down player.

The second round is very good as well, with the Packers selecting McBride, who is the consensus top tight end in this class and brings a well-rounded game to the NFL level. Finally, safety is a sneaky need for the Packers with Vernon Scott the only player under contract in 2023. Landing Cine at this point in the draft feels like a steal.

This isn’t only one of the best mock drafts in this edition of Mock Draft Roundup & Takeaways, but it’s one of the better ones overall.

My mock draft using The Draft Network’s simulator

Round 1: George Karlaftis, Edge, Purdue and George Pickens, WR, Georgia

Round 2: DeMarvin Leal, IDL, Texas A&M and Trey McBride, TE, Colorado State

Takeaway: Four immediate impact players at four of the biggest positions of need. Karlaftis will immediately become the third edge rusher and has the ability to play inside as well. George Pickens is a very Green Bay Packers prospect from his size, athleticism, and willingness as a blocker. He will step in and provide Rodgers with a go-to option on the boundary.

Leal provides the defensive front with an immediate boost against the pass, which is something IDL coach Jerry Montgomery mentioned wanting to add to the rotation. He also has the versatility to play up and down the defensive front. Lastly, I get the best tight end in this class. McBride is a well-rounded prospect from his ability in the passing game to being an effective blocker.
