Green Bay Packers Mock Draft Roundup & Takeaways

Ben Linsey – PFF

Round 1: Chris Olave, WR, Ohio State and Nakobe Dean, LB, Georgia

Takeaway: Chris Olave is a bit on the lighter side compared to what the Green Bay Packers typically covet at the receiver position, but right now, this offense needs someone to be the guy at receiver, and that’s a role Olave can fill. He is considered by many analysts the top route runner in this class and can win immediately at the line of scrimmage. Olave can step in and be that high-volume target who can win at all three levels of the field.

Just as I had mentioned with Lloyd, I just don’t see Green Bay selecting Dean. And again, that really has nothing to do with the player, but the Packers have Campbell, and linebacker historically is not a position they covet in the first round.

Keith Sanchez – The Draft Network

Round 1: Jahan Dotson, WR, Penn State and David Ojabo, Edge, Michigan

Round 2: Chad Muma, LB, Wyoming and Sean Ryhan, IOL, UCLA

Takeaway: As already mentioned, Dotson just does not fit the typical mold that the Packers have for their wide receivers, and while it is more likely that Green Bay could select a linebacker in Round 2 than  Round 1, I still don’t see that happening. The depth can certainly be improved, but with Campbell and Krys Barnes, I don’t see that as a major need either.

Also, spending a second-round pick on an IOL doesn’t seem all that likely either. While teams should always be looking to add to their offensive line room, Green Bay has been able to build their IOL on Day 3 of the draft.

The interesting selection is Ojabo. It’s difficult to know how a player will return from an Achilles injury. At pick 28, we could look back on this pick and say it was a steal, but for a team in win-now mode, it would be more beneficial to look elsewhere–although, as mentioned previously, in Round 2, I would make that pick.
