3 safeties Packers could target in early rounds of 2022 NFL Draft
At first glance, it doesn’t appear that the Green Bay Packers need to take a safety in the early round of the 2022 NFL Draft–especially with both starters Adrian Amos and Darnell Savage returning. However, there may be a long-term need to address.
Amos will be entering the final year of his contract as well as turning 30-years-old, and it’s not clear what his future in Green Bay will look like. Savage, meanwhile, hasn’t lived up to the hype surrounding him early in his career and the Packers have until early May to decide if they should pick up his fifth-year option.
That could leave the door open to select a safety early on in this year’s draft in order to provide some long-term protection. Let’s look at three players who should be there in the first couple of rounds when Green Bay is on the clock.
If the Green Bay Packers want to add a playmaking safety to their roster, here are three players available in the early rounds of the 2022 NFL Draft.
Safeties Packers could target in early rounds of 2022 NFL Draft: Jaquan Brisker
Jaquan Brisker is currently projected to go between the Packers’ 28th overall selection and their 53rd overall pick in the second round. That means they might need to trade up–or back–to land him.
If they do get Brisker, they’ll be getting a safety who can line up all over the field. He can play in the box and provide run support while also displaying lots of range as the lone deep rover. He does need to improve his tackling, especially at the next level. He reminds some of former Packer Micah Hide.
