1 Draft Prospect to Know at Each Position of Need for Green Bay Packers
By Paul Bretl
Green Bay Packers Need: Interior Defensive Lineman
Travis Jones, IDL, UCONN
At 6’4″ – 325 pounds, Jones was stout against the run and oftentimes immovable in the middle of the UCONN defense, even while taking on double-teams. As we all know, the Packers could use some added help against the run, and with Jones in the middle, opposing offensive lines will have to make the choice of handling him one-on-one, or double-teaming him, which frees up Kenny Clark, Rashan Gary, as well as the linebackers.
Jones also brings upside as a pass-rusher, testing very well at the combine, which included a Relative Athletic Score of 9.39. During his final two years at UCONN, Jones logged 48 pressures, seven of which were sacks.
Green Bay Packers Need: Return Man
Velus Jones Jr, WR, Tennessee
If the Green Bay Packers are serious about bolstering their special teams unit — which it would appear that they are with the hiring of Rich Bisaccia — then they need to find a dynamic return man.
Enter Velus Jones Jr, who was in Green Bay this past week for a top-30 visit and is someone who posted a blazing 4.31-second 40-yard dash. Jones has 122 career kick return attempts, averaging 24.4 yards per return, including 26.8 yards this past season, which ranked 29th. He also had 18 punt return attempts in 2021 as well and averaged 15.1 yards per return–this was the fifth most among those with at least 10 attempts.
