1 Draft Prospect to Know at Each Position of Need for Green Bay Packers

Green Bay Packers Need: Edge rusher depth
Boye Mafe, Edge, Minnesota
Mafe is an uber-athletic edge rusher who posted an elite Relative Athletic Score of 9.91 out of 10, including a 4.53-second 40-yard dash. He is still relatively inexperienced, with only 978 career snaps at Minnesota, but he comes with a very high ceiling.
As a pass-rusher, he logged 40 pressures and six sacks in 2021 and will throw different counters and moves at the offensive tackle. We also saw him improve as a run defender this past season as well. Mafe is a bit on the older side at 23-years-old, but in 2019, we saw the Packers select a 23-year-old Elgton Jenkins–so it’s not as if that is an absolute deal-breaker either.
Mafe does have to improve his overall technique, but he has a terrific motor. Sure, selecting a 23-year-old who has to improve his technique can be a bit risky, but with Preston Smith and Rashan Gary to lean on, Mafe would have the opportunity to do so while still playing a key role as the team’s third edge rusher. Also, the draft is about selecting a player based on who you think they will become, not who they are in that moment, and Mafe has the potential to become an impact pass-rusher.
