Packers Mock Draft Roundup & Takeaways: WRs & Defense Dominate
By Paul Bretl
Chris Trappaso – CBS Sports
Pick 22: Jahan Dotson, WR, Penn State
Pick 28: Logan Hall, IDL, Houston
Takeaway: The draft analysts love to give Jahan Dotson to the Packers, but for the reasons already mentioned, I just don’t see it happening.
Logan Hall is an intriguing selection, however, and one that we haven’t seen much for Green Bay. Hall tested very well at the combine and moved around the defensive front during his time at Houston, including 340 career snaps in the traditional edge rusher role, according to PFF ($$). Hall would give Joe Barry some added versatility in the middle of this defense.
Aaron Wilson – Pro Football Network
Pick 22: Chris Olave, WR, Ohio State
Pick 28: Boye Mafe, Edge, Minnesota
Takeaway: In terms of what the Green Bay Packers might actually do in the draft, this one feels pretty realistic. As I’ve already discussed, Olave can be a high-volume target for Aaron Rodgers with his route running ability and reliable hands. I don’t like being the “he won’t be there” guy, but I have a gut feeling that if the Packers want Olave, they’ll have to trade up into the mid-teens to select him.
Meanwhile, Mafe just screams Green Bay Packers player, and a steady presence at that third edge rusher role should be a box that Gutey is looking to check.
