Packers Mock Draft Roundup & Takeaways: WRs & Defense Dominate

Pick 22: Jahan Dotson, WR, Penn State
Pick 28: Boye Mafe, Edge, Minnesota
Takeaway: Jahan Dotson is a very popular pick for the Green Bay Packers, but I don’t think he is on their board–or at least not as high up as the draft community believes. Dotson is smaller than the receivers that the Packers typically covet, measuring in at 5’10” – 178, and he didn’t test well at the combine either–posting a RAS of 6.31, while a majority of Brian Gutekunst’s draft picks have scored above 8.0 and many over 9.0. He posted impressive numbers at Penn State, but the measurables and thresholds don’t add up.
When it comes to Mafe, he feels very much like a Green Bay Packers selection. He plays a premier position, tested incredibly well at the combine, and has a very high ceiling. Although he is a bit older, in 2019, we saw Green Bay select a 23-year-old Elgton Jenkins in Round 2.

Pick 22: Treylon Burks, WR, Arkansas
Pick 28: Devonte Wyatt, IDL, Georgia
Takeaway: Another mock draft that I really like. Burks is a terrific fit in Matt LaFleur’s offense with his ability to be moved around the formation and to pick up YAC–another element this offense could use. Basically, get Burks the ball in space — which we know LaFleur is very good at — and let him go to work.
Wyatt, who is a bit older, would immediately become a key rotational member along the defensive front. He moved up and down the line at Georgia but will likely be a primary 3-tech in the NFL, giving the Packers the added freedom to move Kenny Clark around. He is someone who will make an immediate impact against the run and has some pass rush upside with his athleticism.
