The Milwaukee Brewers win Game 163 in Chicago for the 2018 NL Central Division Title

The Chicago Cubs led the Milwaukee Brewers for the NL Central Division by five games at the start of September. The Brewers caught the Cubs by winning nine of their last ten, which included a seven-game win streak to close out the season. Both teams finished tied for first with 95 wins, and it forced a tiebreaker game 163 for the NL Central Division crown at Wrigley Field.

Both teams clinched a playoff spot. The winner got a championship banner and the No. 1 seed in the National League. The loser would host the Colorado Rockies in the Wild Card game with the possibility of being knocked out in a one-game elimination game.

The Cubs sent Jose Quintana to the mound, who had dominated the Brewers. Milwaukee was able to get a run off Quintana in the third when Yelich drove in Orlando Arcia with a two-out single.

Chicago tied the game in the fifth when Anthony Rizzo took Jhoulys Chacin deep for a solo home run.

The Brewers broke the tie in the eighth when Lorenzo Cain drove in Arcia with a single to center. Ryan Braun drove in Domingo Santana later in the inning for an insurance run.

Josh Hader got the final six outs, and the Brewers celebrated their second NL Division title on the pitcher’s mound at historic Wrigley Field.

The Cubs ended up losing to the Rockies in the NL Wild Card game and were out of the playoffs. The Brewers swept the Rockies in the National League Division Series. The Crew just narrowly missed out on making the World Series as they lost in seven games in a classic National League Championship Series to the Dodgers.
