The Green Bay Packers are in a bad place when it comes to their wide receiver position. The good news is it’s only the beginning of April and they have plenty of time and resources to address the issue.

One of the primary solutions the Packers need to look closely at is signing free agent wide receiver Will Fuller.

The Packers have lost Davante Adams via a trade and Marquez Valdes-Scantling to free agency, leaving them with a bare cupboard at wide receiver. Currently, Randall Cobb, Allen Lazard and Amari Rodgers sit atop their depth chart which is simply not going to get the job done.

The Green Bay Packers desperately need a proven wide receiver and they should look no further than adding free agent Will Fuller.

Fuller is the best deep threat available on the market and would provide more than a Valdes-Scantling replacement for the Packers. When he’s at his best, he’s a legit speed demon who strikes fear in the heart of opposing secondaries. His best season came in 2020 when he caught 53 passes for 879 yards and eight touchdowns in just 11 games (more on his availability in a moment).

He ran a 4.32 second 40-yard dash coming out of college and has one of the highest upsides among remaining free agent wide receivers. The Packers need to take calculated gambles on players and Fuller might be the guy to pull the trigger on.

The biggest issue is his availability. He always gets hurt and hasn’t played in more than 11 games in a season since his rookie year in 2016. This includes only two games last year when he suffered a broken finger and missed basically the entire year.

The Packers’ long-term salary cap is murky, but they could offer Fuller a one-year prove-it deal in Green Bay to increase his worth and allow him to hit the market next season with the hopes of signing a long-term deal.

Aaron Rodgers would be the best pure passer Fuller has played with and with little competition for targets on the roster as of now, he could beef up his stats in 2022. The price would have to be right for both sides which could be another sticking point. However, both Green Bay and Fuller have a ton to gain from a partnership and they should absolutely move forward with a deal.
