Under the radar first-round prospects for Packers: Daxton Hill, DB, Michigan

Adding a defensive back may not jump out as an immediate need, but there’s a bigger hole there than you think.

At safety, Adrian Amos and Darnell Savage took a step back last year and didn’t carry over the momentum they created to finish the 2020 campaign. Amos is also set to become a free agent after 2022 (while also turning 30) and Savage has his fifth-year rookie extension pending for 2023.

Daxton Hill played in the slot last year for Michigan and could fill in for the Packers there in 2022 as well. However, PFF projects him as a safety in the NFL which is a transition he could make if the Packers don’t retain both Amos or Savage moving forward. Giving him a year or two to acclimate to the NFL would serve everyone well if he’s asked to play a larger role in the near future.
