5 things that need to happen for Brewers to win World Series
By Todd Welter
Yelich needs to return to his MVP form
Ever since his Yelich injured his knee, he has not been the same player at the plate. He has also struggled with back injuries and has been in a two-season slump. He hit just .205 in 2020 and .248 in 2021. During those two seasons, he has hit just 21 home runs.
He was a two-time NL batting champion before 2020, hit 80 home runs between 2018-2019, and won the 2018 NL MVP.
Fangraphs projects that Yelich will have a much better 2022 than his 2021 season. The projection is closer to the numbers he put up with the Miami Marlins.
Even if he returns to his career numbers with the Marlins, that may not be enough to win a World Series. The Brewers need the MVP version of Yelich to return to have a shot at a championship ring.
Willy Adames continues to play well for the Brewers
Adames was struggling through the first couple of weeks of the 2021 season in Tampa. The Brewers were also struggling. When Adames was acquired by the Brewers, both the team and he took off.
Adames was the spark the Brewers needed to march towards a division title. He needs to continue to be the player everyone saw in Milwaukee and not the one with the mediocre career in Tampa.
Fangraphs thinks he will have another solid season. The Milwaukee Brewers’ offense is going to need it. The Brewers offense needs to be much better down the stretch if they hope to break through in October. Last year the offense was the Crew’s Achilles heel.
