Packers Tackle Big Positions of Need in 4 Round NFL.com Mock Draft
By Paul Bretl
Green Bay Packers Pick 53: Skyy Moore, WR, Western Michigan
Given the state of the wide receiver room, one would think that the Packers are going to address this position more than once within the first three rounds–especially with five picks in the top-100.
Moore was a high-volume and highly productive pass-catcher during his time at Western Michigan. This past season was by far his best as he was targeted 117 times, catching 76.9 percent of those passes for 1,255 yards (13.9 YPC) and 10 touchdowns.
While Moore has experience both in the slot and on the boundary, he is projected as a slot receiver at the NFL level; however, the Packers already have Randall Cobb and Amari Rodgers in that role. Not that this should be a big deterrent, but worth mentioning.
Together, Moore and Burks would provide this Green Bay Packers receiver room with some much-needed playmaking ability, although finding a true deep threat is still on the to-do list at this point.
Green Bay Packers Pick 59: Tariq Castro-Fields, CB, Penn State
Yes, the Packers have Rasul Douglas, Jaire Alexander, and Eric Stokes, but the depth at cornerback beyond those three is a big question mark. They just signed Keisean Nixon, although he is likely more of a special teams contributor, while Shemar Jean-Charles, Kiondre Thomas, and Kabion Ento have a total of 38 career defensive snaps.
Castro-Fields was primarily a boundary cornerback at Penn State and had 2,228 career defensive snaps over five seasons. For his career, he allowed a completion rate of 55% on 172 targets at 12.9 yards per catch. He also came away with three interceptions and 15 pass breakups. Castro-Field has 340 career special teams snaps as well.
At 6’0″ – 194 pounds, Castro-Fields comes with good size, but as Kyle Crabbs of The Draft Network mentions, there was a lack of impact plays from him at Penn State.
