Free agents who can push Packers’ defense over the top: Tyrann Mathieu

After four defensive linemen to kick off this list, it’s time we give the secondary some love. The Packers might be set back there with Rasul Douglas, Eric Stokes and Jaire Alexander manning the cornerback position and Darnell Savage and Adrian Amos at safety. However, Tyrann Mathieu is too good to ignore.

The Packers are going to have to move some pieces around in their secondary to figure out who will play in the slot if they want their five best defensive backs on the field as often as possible. That could be an issue considering none of their three corners have experience sliding inside and neither safety is particularly adept in that spot either.

Enter Mathieu. He can play a majority of his time in the slot and slide all over the field. Green Bay could run more six defensive back sets considering the run support Mathieu offers as well. It would take some tinkering, but Mathieu is the ballhawk this defense needs to push them over the top.
