The Green Bay Packers have the ability to create some cap space and use it in free agency if they so please. Could they use it to go even more all-in on their defense?

We are less than a month into the offseason and there’s still plenty of time for the Packers to address a bevy of needs. However, it appears they are going to lean on their defense even more in 2022 than ever before.

They’ve re-signed Rasul Douglas and De’Vondre Campbell and also came to a contract extension with Preston Smith. If they want to push their defense over the top, they could look at signing any of these five remaining free agents.

These five remaining players on the free agent market can help the Green Bay Packers’ defense achieve new heights in the 2022 season.

Free agents who can push Packers’ defense over the top: Sheldon Richardson

Sheldon Richardson came on Packers’ fans’ radar a couple of years ago, but nothing ever came to fruition. He’s bounced around the NFL since then–playing for four different teams in the last six years. He would have to adjust back to the 3-4 alignment Green Bay runs, but he’s a do-it-all defensive lineman. Richardson wouldn’t make any spectacular plays but he could be on the field for all three downs and give the Packers a solid option upfront alongside Kenny Clark.
