Stars must play better for Wisconsin Basketball to advance further in the tournament

Wisconsin may have been able to pull away from the pesky Colgate squad, but that does not mean that fans should have zero worries following the game. Plain and simple, the team’s stars did not play well enough to beat a team that isn’t inferior.

Against Colgate, they were fine. However, the trio of Davis/Davison/Wahl must perform better from here on out.

Brad Davison had what was likely his worst game of the season. He finished the game with only 4 points and only made one field goal. He also made a terrible play by the sideline by grabbing the ball and stepping out of bounds when it would have been Wisconsin’s ball anyway. Davison just never seemed like himself.

Tyler Wahl probably didn’t play as bad as his stats indicate, but his shooting percentage is not something that we would like to consistently see. While he was the main reason why Wisconsin was able to hang around before Davis’ takeover late, his 7 out of 18 shooting performance will not do against better teams down the road.

Lastly, Johnny Davis has to be better. It seems weird to say that, considering he did lead the team in scoring, and his late-game heroics did propel the team to victory. Before that, though, he was arguably one of the biggest reasons why the game was ever close in the first place. All night he consistently forced shots and just seemed off, a common pattern for Davis over the last couple of games for the Badgers.

It’s hard to be critical of players that we know are so important to the team, but in games as important as the ones in March, you have to be. Overall, we should all be happy that the Badgers are advancing and will get another game on Sunday vs. Iowa State.
