Green Bay Packers Pick 92: Alec Pierce, WR, Cincinnati

As I mentioned previously, receiver isn’t only a big need this season, but beyond as well, so having a few rookie contracts on the books will help alleviate some of those long-term concerns.

The Packers are reportedly interested in bringing Marquez Valdes-Scantling back, and understandably so, they need that downfield threat in their passing game. With MVS sidelined at various points last season, the Packers’ big-play ability took a hit. But in addition to that, having that home run ability on the field helps with spacing and can open up the passing game for others.

One way or another, the Green Bay Packers need to add this element to their roster for the 2022 season and Pierce can help with that. Pierce was the go-to option on shot plays in the Cincinnati offense and had an average depth of target over his career of 17.0 yards while averaging 17.1 yards per catch.

Pierce has the ability to work underneath as well, with 28 of his 74 targets in 2021 coming within 10 yards of the line of scrimmage. He is also a willing blocker, which we know is important to Matt LaFleur. Pierce is someone who could step in and contribute right away.

Final Thoughts

– Full disclosure, I was operating under the assumption that Rasul Douglas is going to be back. Based on the reports that have come out, that certainly sounds like what is going to happen. However, if that wasn’t the case, I absolutely would have selected a cornerback. It is too important of a position, and the depth on the Packers roster is a major red flag at the moment.

– Two positions I was also looking at was safety and offensive tackle. But given how the board fell, neither really presented themselves as options in the first three rounds. Hopefully, with two fourth-round picks, I’d have been able to address at least one of those needs.

– Overall, I was very happy with how this mock draft turned out. When we look at what are the biggest needs on this Green Bay Packers’ roster at the moment, I felt that I was able to address each one of them in the first three rounds, and every one of those picks should make an impact in 2022.
