The Green Bay Packers announced a flurry of moves on Monday (you can follow all of their moves this offseason by clicking here), including a somewhat surprise release of starting right tackle Billy Turner.

Turner is coming off one of his best seasons as a professional and received the praise of Aaron Rodgers shortly before an injury cost him the rest of the regular season. The move saved Green Bay $3.4 million of cap space–a somewhat small, but necessary number considering their current salary cap situation.

With Green Bay now looking to replace a starter on the offensive line, let’s take a look at four options they have.

If Green Bay wants to turn to the draft for Turner’s replacement, that could be a smart long-term move. They’ve invested heavily at the position in recent drafts and it has paid off with selections such as Elgton Jenkins, Josh Myers, Jon Runyan, and Royce Newman.

Smith is a work in progress and will just be 21-years-old by the time the NFL Draft comes around in April. However, he has the mindset and athletic ability to play tackle in the NFL and could be the Packers’ long-term solution even if he doesn’t start in Year 1.
