Final Prediction: The Green Bay Packers won’t re-sign Kevin King

I’m not sure there were many of us out there who thought that King would be back in Green Bay for the 2021 season, and this offseason feels fairly similar–however, I just cannot see the Packers signing him to another one-year deal.

Cornerback depth is one of the bigger concerns this offseason, but Green Bay should look elsewhere to fill that need. King is now five years into his career, and the inconsistency and injury issues have followed him around for much of it. Re-signing him once again, even in a reduced role, is not all of a sudden going to change any of that. At this point, we have a pretty good idea of what King can offer on the football field.

I also just have this gut feeling that there will be a team out there who pays King more than the veteran minimum salary–which is more than what Green Bay should be willing to offer if there was any interest.

We don’t know what kind of spending power the Green Bay Packers will have in free agency, but bringing in a veteran presence to join this young and inexperienced cornerback room will help provide that needed stability on the back-end. The Packers could also look to the draft and spend another early-round pick on the position.

Regardless of how they go about it, this is a position that must be addressed–even though it seems to be flying under the radar a bit. However, whichever route Green Bay decides to go, when it comes to King’s future, it is finally time to move on.
