Prediction: The Green Bay Packers re-sign Tyler Lancaster

This doesn’t mean that Lancaster is going to be a priority–Green Bay very well could let him test the free agent waters, and if he’s offered a deal that is higher than expected, Lancaster very much could end up playing elsewhere in 2022.

But as I alluded to above, I don’t sense that his market is going to be terribly strong, and the Packers will be able to re-sign him to a reasonable contract.

With only four players under contract, the interior defensive line is one of the biggest positions of need this offseason. No, Lancaster isn’t flashy — and that shouldn’t be the expectation — but he fills a needed role within this defense, doing the dirty work as previously mentioned, and being on the field for nearly 400 snaps each of the last three seasons at a position that is frequently rotated.

Lancaster feels like one of those players who is more appreciated within the organization by his teammates and the coaching staff than on the outside because of what he’s asked to do.

Should Green Bay try to upgrade this position? Absolutely. But with four players on the roster, they aren’t exactly in a position to be turning their nose up to Lancaster and what he can offer this defense.
